Fat Ass 50K Race

Held at Willowdale State Forest, Ipswich, Mass.

It's December 28th 9am, 15 degrees, sunny and there is 3 to 12 inches freshly fallen snow covering the race course. It seems like a perfect day to run 50 K. That said, more than fifty runners toed the line for the 5th annual GAC Fat Ass Fifty. Course conditions deteriorated rapidly causing both slush, icy spots and generally poor footing. The GAC's own Moe Pratt won this years 50K run in 5:29:31 followed by Steve Pero, Craig Wilson and Gary Goodman. Also Dan Concessi finished his 1st ever trail marathon. Meanwhile at the Aid Station the soup was on, the grill was light and serving Hot Dogs, Hamburgers and Sausages and the heater was fired up to keep the cold and weary warm on this cold winters day. If you like to run a little and have lots of fun this could be you kind of run and I hope to see in 2003. Thanks to all the runners who ran and to the people who donated time and food to make this years run the best ever.
